ACCESS TO NATIONAL PARK

Chemu14.JPG (27193 bytes)

The Chiltern Forest or Chiltern Box Ironbark National Park is across the road from our farm. The Forest is the home to some very special trees, such as the Mugga Ironbark, and the White Box. These trees flower for up to 6 months making a home for the necter eating birds, or Honey Eaters.

There are some rare and endangered species of honey eaters in the forest. There is also a variety of native animals, such as echidnas, kangaroos, wallabies and many small mamals such as sugar gliders and possums. If you walk in the forest around dusk you will surely bump into some of the locals.

Some interesting features of this section of the Chiltern Forest include the Golden Bar Gold Mine, the Golden Bar Battery or rock crushing site, the Cyanide Dam, the grass trees, and the Honey Eater Picnic Area. For more details of this forest, look under the White Box Walk which is featured on this internet site under Chiltern Tourist Attractions- Walks.
