JACK RILEY WAS MANAGER OF THE TOM GROGGIN CATTLE STATION IN 1884. HIS REPUTATION AS A SKILLED HORSEMAN IS LEGENDARY. IN THE MID 1880'S HE PERSUED A THOROUGHBRED STALLION ON HOSEBACK THROUGH A ROUGH MOUNTAIN TERRAIN AND SUCCESSFULLY STEERED THE HORSE HOME. BANJO PATTERSON VISITED JACK AND SOON THE BALLARD OF "THE MAN FROM SNOWY RIVER" WAS PUBLISHED, AND OF COURSE IS NOW A PART OF AUSTRALIAN HISTORY. JACK RILEY DIED IN 1914, AND IS BURRIED IN THE CORRYONG CEMETERY.

ON TUESDAY 11TH TO FRIDAY THE 14TH APRIL, RILEY'S RIDE FROM TOM GROGGIN STATION TO CORRYONG IS A THREE DAY HORSE RIDE SIMULATING THE LEGENDARY RETURN TO CORRYONG.
